Government
Funding Supports Research on Enterprise Resource Planning
(ERP) Solutions for the Jewelry Industry

(Hong Kong, 30 April, 2003) Objective
Management Consulting (OMC) today announced that the Project
Assessment Panel of the Innovation and Technology Commission
has in principle recommended to fund our Phase I Project under
the Small Entrepreneur Research Assistance Programme (SERAP)
which aims to provide financing for pre-venture capital stage
of technology entrepreneurs for starting up, carrying out R&D,
and conducting market validation.
The Innovation and Technology Fund (ITF) is set up by the Government
to provide funding support to projects that contribute to innovation
and technology upgrading in industry, as well as those essential
to the upgrading and development of industry. According to the
scheme, an initial amount of HK$5 billion has been injected
into the Fund. The ITF aims to increase the added value, productivity
and competitiveness of our economic activity. The Government
hopes that, through the ITF, Hong Kong Companies could be encouraged
and assisted to upgrade their technological level and introduce
innovative ideas to their businesses.
According to our best knowledge, this funding is the first time
of the same to support a private company for the research and
system development in the jewelry industry. Our project title
is ¡§ERP solutions for the jewelry industry¡¨. We aims to inject
more inputs based on our existing jewelry ERP system which is
tailor-made for jewelry traders, wholesalers and manufacturers
in Hong Kong and Mainland China . Below is an abstract from
our Project Summary.
The core of Jewelry ERP System (JES) is an integrated and packaged
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution which is flexibly
designed for jewelry industry to meet the demands of modern
jewelry wholesalers, traders and manufacturers. Based on open
technology, JES integrates all business operations of a jewelry
enterprise including jewelry design, quotation, sales order,
material requisition plan and purchase, production planning,
manufacturing process control, inventory control, and shipping
and logistics. Information can be easily accessed and interchanged
downstream and upstream via today¡¦s Internet technology. JES
is a core system of the jewelry enterprise and an ultimate solution
for jewelry industry that optimizes business processes and raises
overall productivity of different business units.
JES is specially designed for local jewelry enterprises such
that they will deploy rapidly the proven information technologies
to increase operation efficiency and save costs. The system
design is fully modular and scalable to cater the present and
future of all jewelry enterprises in Hong Kong. It allows sharing
